DC is on a bit of a get-fit-before-his-next-big-bike-ride, so we decided to walk up Black Mountain today.

I forgot to turn on the GPS until part way through the Botanic Gardens.  The timing was something like:

11:30 - start of track (which was half way up through the gardens)
12:15 - arrival at summit (delayed by a bit cause we missed the turn off to the summit track and had to backtrack in the gardens)
12:34 - start back down
13:05 - approximate arrival back at above starting point
13:25 - arrival cafe after walking through the rainforest bit of the gardens

The GPS track is not 100% accurate but not too bad...

After we got back down we stopped for lunch in the cafe.  The magpies and choughs making a killing on leftovers (especially the magpies)

Was a good day.

I've posted pics of red rumped parrots before, but got some super cool pics of some yesterday.  Aren't they little sweeties?

Friday night built Lego

Toy Story Lego

Yesterday was woken up fairly early by completely useless alerts.  Then patching alerts a while later meant I didn't get a sleep in.  Had a nice quiet morning.  Built some Lego.  In the afternoon did some food shopping.  Stu cooked a nice bean dish for dinner.

I loved the mist coming off the pool edge and damp towel

I must have looked at them funny..
Doves taking off

We have these gorgeous bean plants growing.  Unfortunately they're completely sterile (grown from leftovers of the original crop) and not a single bean on the plants :(  So not taking any care of them, but they're still growing like crazy..

Even had some eastern rosellas down

Nat and Andrew came over after dinner for some wiiing. That was a bit of fun.  Tried to get the sweetie to play Billionaire with us but he wouldn't so we didn't play (cause you really need at least four to play) :(  Had a repeat of the Robert Pattinson conversation that we had at Shogun, which was pretty darned funny ;)  Edward from Twilight is Cedric Diggory in Harry Potter people! :)  Baked a coconut cake, but had the oven up too high, so it was sufficiently burnt around the edges that we had to cut them off - doh!  And I also attempted to make icing, which I probably haven't done since I moved out of home ten years ago :)  First batch was a bit of a fail cause I put wayyy too much water in it (it's not like making gravy! heh).  And then just before midnight (oops, we didn't realise the time) we put on Toy Story.  Nat & Andrew fell asleep by the end (and I have photographic evidence mwoooahahah)

Toy Story Lego

Cake disaster

Got to bed very late (after 1:30), then woken up by stoopid alerts at 3:20 and 8:20, so no sleep in for me.  Got up to feed the birdies and found the beans somewhat destroyed by frost and the pool frozen over (it'd been below zero since 9:30pm last night).  Super awesome day just being at home.  Emptied, organised, rehomed and repacked ten storage boxes I'd had in the dungeon so that it would be clearer for the sweetie to have as a retreat.  The sweetie made a nice (but a bit too spicy for me) lentil dish for dinner.  Made more Lego.  Watched a very stoopid movie (cause Kristen Bell was in it and the sweetie wanted to watch it).

At this point I'd be feeling a bit blah cause it'd be the end of the weekend.  But oh the bliss of a long weekend!! :)

Uriarra

So yesterday Potty smsed us to see if we wanted to go for a drive.  Since we weren't doing anything we thought why not.  So got picked up after lunch.

The plan was to head to out to Gentle Annie's Trail, except certain five year olds, who shall remain nameless, whinged the whole way that it was too long and he felt sick.  Which is silly since he goes on long drives regularly.  Maybe cause he was relegated to the very back seat (he was totally fine on the way back in the middle).  So that was all a bit *meh* and .. *kids* .. :/

So long story short we stopped at Uriarra crossing for about an hour, having a look at the Murrumbidgee in flood (not as bad as it was a week ago) and a snack.

Coming back Potty decided to take the scenic route over Coppins Crossing.  Had to reverse all the way back too because the other end was a bit washed out.

and then did our food shopping afterwards.

I did a jigsaw

And did a bunch of UK planning.

Didn't end up going out for dinner, which was a bit sad-making.  Watched Toy Story 1 and 2 instead.

Today it was miserable again, so stayed inside all day.  Did a whole lot of nothing, played a game of Ticket to Ride Europe, and cooked dinner.  Which is still cooking :)

This morning we headed out to Cafe Injoy for breakfast.  Lots of sparrows there to keep us company.

Injoy sparrow

After breakfast we went out to feed the fish, but their water is so disgusting I don't think they could see the bread we were throwing them.

So I fed the pigeons instead.  They even sat on me to eat, and I caught a couple of them just because I could.

Then we walked down past some pretty leaves

and past the George Harcourt which is being expanded at the moment

.. to the National Dinosaur Museum!  I've had Entertainment Book vouchers for there for the last couple of years so thought we should use em some time.  It wasn't a bad little museum, and it even had some real specimens (Stu was most excited by the Ediacara Hills specimens of pre-cambrian fossils).  It was $11 each, but was buy one get one free with the voucher, so only $11 for the both of us.

This arvo was cleaning house all day and making Lego.

This evening Nat and Andrew came over and we watched some tv and played some Buzz and Wii.  And got the worst Pizza Hut pizza *ever* !!  Will be writing a letter to Pizza Hut tomorrow about how epic crap it was (nearly two hours wait and it was cold when it got here :( ).  But otherwise a fun night.

Some photos of today will be updated when I get around to getting them off the camera...

Two years ago today we visited Schloss Schönbrunn in Vienna, then the Wiener Riesenrad (big Ferris Wheel).

Two years ago today we explored some of Vienna, wasted half the afternoon doing our washing, and walked a looong way along Donauinsel
When we were in the taxi to AGIMO yesterday we noticed how lovely the autumn colours were at the moment on the trees around the lake.  So after brunch at Gus', we met up with the Windys down at the lake.  I took over three hundred photos.  Oops.

Two years ago today we headed out to Potsdam and cycled around some of the palaces, then had a swim in Wannsee.
Yesterday was a blissfully quiet day.  I don't think we even left the house.  Did some computer work in the morning, and some jigsaw, and cleaned the pool (while the sweetie had a migraine :( ).  Finished the evening off with a little beer, some tv and jigsaw.

Today we got up and ready then headed out for breakfast at Black Pepper, then did our shopping, then headed out to Yass for much nomms.

And suddenly the weekend is over???  How rude!!
Yesterday morning (well actually Friday night), the sweetie decided we should go out for breakfast.  So after making sure servers were working after patching reboots we went to Black Pepper in Belconnen.  Wasn't too bad.  I had eggs benedict with some really yummy bacon, although I don't think I'd have it with the farmhouse muffin again.

After brekky we went for a walk to the Hub to see if they had any Japanese coffee-in-a-cans that Stu still misses about Japan.  Then for a wander round the lake to look at the swan that was there.

Spent much of the day trying to sort out four and half thousand photos that haven't been filed since around September last year :/

After their film group night, Nat and Andrew came over and we played some Wii.  First up Mario Kart (eight races, always fun), then some Kirby Airride (the general racing wasn't too bad but the mini-maps were too painful to control), and then some Mario Kart Double Dash from the Gamecube (like Mario Kart but with two characters on each cart and a few different tracks, a few the same, a little weird but still fun).  Which took us well and truly into tomorrow (today)!

This morning I went along to Kerry's baby shower.  A room full of strangers was really not my idea of fun :/  They played a couple of baby-shower type games (a version of Pictionary was the most fun, of course heh), but I ran away again when it came to "playing dressups" and a tea party relay.  Potty's colleague Danielle was nice though, and she's due shortly after Kerry.

I wanted to upload the rest of the photos I took to conspiracy, but the server disk is pretty much full, and I can't FTP anything :(  Wondering if I should finally move my blog somewhere else .... :/

Came home and did some more photo sorting, and we put quite a few books into shelves too.

Watched an ok doco on the Titanic disaster.. really must get Stu to watch the 1998 version... heh

And had a dip in the freezing puddle to cool off from this stoopid heat.. bring on autumn!!

I got to take a whole heap of photos of the chookens

.. before moving in the wrong way freaked one of them out and she flew over the fence and onto the balcony then the garage roof..

Annie made a delicous lasagna, and then we all watched Nanny McPhee.

Saw quite a few birds, and plenty of very green scenery, but the best part was almost treading on a bearded dragon.  Not the treading on bit.  But seeing one.  Cause it was just very cool :)

Day in Yass

First up, a pic of the cherry blossoms that are starting to open (took this yesterday)

Weeping cherry buds

Today was quite a spectacular spring day. Got picked up by Scott and Kerry and headed out to Yass for lunch.

The country side is very green at the moment.

They have heaps of gorgeous daffodils

Cherry blossoms are making me feel like I'm back in Japan (except there were bees today)

Lunch was some wonderful roast beef that Annie cooked, and a spectacular ice cream cake that Ruth made

Then we went down to Yass park with all the kids

Yass park slide

Got home very late, and had to cram a whole stack of work into a very short time before it got too dark.

Cooked mushroom pizzas for dinner (that's a base of a few big portabella mushrooms, stuffed with veggies and cheese) and played some Olympics and got another crown. Still hate hate hate fencing. And called the parents for father's day.

Is it bed time now? :)

First up, we have a four-legged spider.  !!
Well that's what it looked like walking across the floor.  Like something had gotten a few of its legs (and its head!)

And then we went to Nat and Andrew's where everyone started comparing the sizes of their .. lenses .. hehe

Had a slow morning.  It was cold and grey and didn't feel like doing much.

After lunch worked on a new lego mosaic design.

Later on we went for a drive, and went down to the lake to go tweeter watching and coot and swan feeding.  The black swans are a lot less agro without cygnets to care for.  There was a pair that we fed and one of them even let us touch it without freaking out or trying to bite us.  It was more interested in getting food than running away! :)

Then we popped into Stu's work to print out something and headed home.

This evening cooked roast veggies and worked on the Lego mosaic.  Worried I'm not going to have enough blue, so have been trying to fill up the blue space with *stuff* ....

This morning we meandered down to the lake to see Stu's favourite family of swans.  We took along some old bread, which they rather enjoyed.  Entirely too cute...!

For lunch we went to Satis *again* (third time in three weeks?) .. but this time met up with Sean and Mel. Stu had scrambled tofu and Mel had banana bread...

And then finally headed home. And it snowed!!! Well it was probably more sleet than snow, but it was still pretty cool...

Nice Saturday

Didn't really get a whole lot done, but still was a nice day.

This morning our fireplace caught another sparrow (three died in there while we were on our honeymoon :( ).  Spent ages chasing it round the living room.  In fact I even had it pinned by the tail feathers at one point, only to have all the tail feathers come adrift and it get away :(

Sparrow tail feathers

But I did manage to catch it eventually, and off it flew into the trees.

Then we went over to Damien's for lunch and games.

Started the afternoon off with Guillotine, which was quite fun, and Stu won. Then a game of Carcassonne which Stu also won, but it was very close. And finally Killer Bunnies, which wasn't a whole lot better than last time, although much less complamicated without all the extra expansion sets. It really is a rather pointless game. Damien won that one in the end.

Finally home for home-made pizzas and some Star Trek.

Dead..

| | Comments (0)
Think the sparrow might be dead somewhere.  It didn't come out for food yesterday.  So it might have gotten trapped somewhere.  Great.  If we don't find it it'll prolly stink the house out somewhat :/

Oh yeah..

| | Comments (0)
.. and the frigging little sparrow has taken to hiding behind things, rather than trying to fly out the windows.  Which makes it nearly impossible to catch.  Wasted twenty minutes of my life this morning chasing the little bugger.

Bird in the House

| | Comments (0)
There's a bird in the house.

This one.

Sparrow
I have no idea where it is.  I tried to let it out this morning but after I'd opened the door I turned around and haven't seen it since.  I know it's here because it's pooped all over the tv.  And it ate the seed I left out for it on the kitchen bench.  But I still can't find it.  Hoping it'll wake up in the morning and be more active so I can find it.

Actually this was the second bird in the house today!  The other one I did manage to catch, peer at for a while, the let go outside.  But the second one had a lot more energy and wasn't wanting to be caught...

So that takes us up to four birds that our fireplace has caught..

Starling

| | Comments (0)
After I got home tonight, I heard a rustling in the other room, and Stu said he thought a bird might be in the fireplace.  This is not the first time we've caught a bird in there - last time a sparrow got trapped.  So we looked inside but couldn't see anything.  Eventually we saw it and realised it wasn't a sparrow but a starling.  Eventually it (she?) got out, and made a break for the outside...

Starling
Stu caught her and had her pose for photographs..

Starling
And then we let her go

This little sparrow came up to us yesterday hoping for a handout..

Scrawny sparrow
Stu got this at Cancon.  A word of warning though - these are incredibly "cheap" t-shirts (in quality if not in price - $25!), and this one split open (not even on a seam) after its first wear.

Who's your marder
Some of my Australia Day weekend was spent built making models.

Hence the need for a trip to Fyshwick yesterday to get some paint.

This was what I needed it for:

F-15 Eagle model
Cute huh?  A guy at work got it free at EB games, but wasn't going to build it, so I said I would.  Hope it doesn't get smashed in the office..  Unfortunately it's Revell, which is a "cheap" brand, and badly designed - it's tail-heavy but there's no instructions to weight it down at the front, and by the time you notice after attaching the wheels it's too late :(

And here's something I saw when it first came out in 1990 and regretted for years afterwards not buying at the time.  So a couple of years ago I got one on eBay :)
