Had an interesting afternoon at AGIMO this arvo hearing about Funnelback (after stopping in for lunch at Caphs in Manuka - I had a caesar salad which was nice enough except that it was completely devoid of any parmesan cheese :( )
Then got a lift into town with the Windys and visited Stu's new office which I'd not seen before.
And then we headed out to dinner at Debacle. I had a Stiegl and a Franziskaner, and Stu had a Pilsner Urquell and a Franziskaner Dunkel. All very nice. For dinner I had pork ribs which were epic nommmm and Stu had a completely gross pizza (anchovies, olives and chilli - yuk!!)
It's Friday!!!
Two years ago today we visited Checkpoint Charlie, walked along the East Side Gallery and went up the Fernsehturm. So much more we could have seen but were tired and a bit stressed out.
So I haven't blogged all week.
Sorry.
I didn't want to blog until I'd finished blogging our Melbourne trip. Which took all week. Hrmmmm.
Nothing much really happened all week. There was work. And a day off. And work again. And beer. And dinner at Taj Agra, which gave me the hiccoughs. And more work.
The day off was lovely. Had a relaxing morning doing the jigsaw I got in Melbourne, and then going into town with Stu and having lunch with Melita. Could easily have a day off every day!
Today we got ready relatively early and went to Satis for breakfast, then visited Little Sneezy/Whingey/Farty (haven't got a good nickname for her yet! Maybe Violet Crumble? hehee) and the rest of the family, then our food shopping and suddenly it's nearly 2pm. Didn't do much with the rest of the afternoon, just jigsaw and kirigami catchup and Melbourne trip blogging.
And now it's most definitely beer o'clock. I tried to suggest it to the sweetie while we were out shopping that we could use some more beer, but we didn't end up getting any. So had to pay 2-3 times the price at the local bottle-o. Oh well...
I'm sure Dave would disapprove (of the turd food below that is)...
This is a pic of dinner last night..
There was roast potatoes with oil and salt .. fried mushrooms with shallots and fresh parsley.. tomato with various cheeses and basil .. very nommm
Tonight I had beers lined up from eleven different countries .. Australia, Singapore, Thailand, Holland, Japan, Belgium, Italy, Germany, Czech Republic, Denmark and Mexico :) (not all mine!!)
Then was a very pleasant dinner at Prince Palace (cause 2 Yummy was closed). Followed by Men's Pocky and some turd dessert....
Had a nice weekend at the coast last weekend.
Headed down Friday afternoon/evening.
Stopped for pizza in Malua Bay at the Sandy Foot Cafe. Decided to eat in, and had a "Big Mama".
The others had arrived just before us, but they let us have "our" room.. very sweet of them :)
Proceeded with the challenge of a keg in a weekend. But I didn't have to put too much effort into it - got quite a bit of help from Dave and some from Stu :) After a bit of Wii Sports Resort we had a spa til 2:30 until the dog really needed to go to sleep.
On Saturday morning I started a 3D jigsaw of a church and had an early snack lunch before heading up to Myrtle Beach for a swim. It was *soooo* beautiful!! Except for all the seaweed on the beach, but that was a totally minor thing. The water was beautiful and warm and crystal clear, I was kicking myself I didn't bring our snorkels. We caught a little (1.5cm) fish in our hands, and a similar sized squid or cuttlefish baby. And a little black worm thing. One of the best ocean swims I've ever had.
Headed back to the house for more food and jigsaws. I finished the 3D one and started on a "mystery" one - it comes with a story and you have to look at the picture (once it's finished - there's no picture on the box) to solve the mystery. Finished that while the others cooked up a storm on the barbeque. We finished the keg at 6:30pm - WTF?? :) Good thing Dave had brought some kirin :) Ate dinner by candlelight for earth hour (even though supposedly candles produce more greenhouse gasses than electric lights - fail! heh) Only stayed up in the spa til 12:30 :)
Sunday I started another jigsaw - one I got off freecycle recently. Played a bit of Wii as well (Super Mario Bros for Wii - still didn't like it any better the second time around). Cleaned up and headed home mid afternoon (via The Scottish Restaurant). It was so fricken humid at the coast that it was bliss to sit in an air conditioned car for a while! Was pretty grumpy that I missed the airport open day. Think I'll cancel whatever plans I have next time.. But otherwise a very nice weekend.
So Windy organised a group of us to have lunch out at Fyshwick at Zierholz. It was a lot of fun.
The restaurant is set out with several large tables (about eight tables holding eight to sixteen or so people). It does mean that if there's only a couple of you, you'll have trouble getting a table. Most of the tables were reserved today, and we saw some people leave again straight away.
We got there just after twelve, and ordered their Sample Paddle - a 60ml sample of seven different beers, with a half pint of whatever was your favourite. This was a fantastic idea! Getting to try all these different beers together was great. They suggested starting with the light beers and moving up the the heavy darker beers. Well I drank the first, light, beer, then decided to do a mouthful of each up the line. When there were only two mouthfuls of each left, I went back down the line in reverse order, on account of not really liking heavy beers and preferring the lighter ones. :)
A while after receiving these, maybe twenty past twelve, we ordered our food. Entrées eventually arrived, however I didn't order one, as usually if I have an entrée I'll have trouble finishing the main. So I had one of Chris' salt and pepper squid thingies, and one of Stu's mussels. And then we waited. Ages and ages.
It was nearly 2pm by the time our mains arrived. Now we were having a nice time anyway, but that really was very slow service. I got the pork belly, which was delicious and nice and crunchy skin, although the portion size was a heck of a lot smaller than I expected. Stu got some sausages which were pretty good too.
By the time we'd finished, Nanette and I decided we were still hungry, so ordered some wedges to actually fill us up. We shouldn't have had to do this! Seriously!
So anyway. Nice enough lunch and the beers were good, but very slow service, and portion sizes left a lot to be desired.
Feels like a really long day .. although I didn't actually *do* anything...!
Did a little bit of work in the morning before an all-official-like morning tea with the big boss. Ate far too much yummy food there. Because then we had a farewell lunch, which of course I wasn't hungry for.. oops! Had a couple of beers and a salad I couldn't actually get through - tragic really. So that went for ages, then we went to JB Hi-Fi and Windy bought Abba Singstar. I was going to go home at that point, but Stu wasn't up for coming to get me, so decided we should go play Windy's new Singstar :) So we did :) Did pretty much the entire Abba disc, except for a couple of the ones that have parts - which are evil! Also did some of his other ones. We ended up singing for about two and a half hours - oops!
Then had some dinner and a few beers while singing along with The Sound of Music ;)
At least, most of it.. we decided to call it a night after the wedding, as we were getting tired and the movie still had like an hour to go. They should *totally* do a Sound of Music Singstar ;)
So all up quite a fun day :)
The 16th of May is burned in my brain for several big occasions. In 1999 Gavin and Fran got married. In 2004 we flew to America. In 2001 my flat in Sydney settled.
Also in 1999 I went over to Vic's place and had my second ever beer. In honour of the occasion I went and got some of the same beer. Cheers Vic! :)

Feel somewhat bloated tonight. Can't possibly be anything to do with the beers and turkish bread I had tonight...
Still can't get that out of my head... trivia question from last night... I could swear I knew it but couldn't place it.. was so frustrated when I found out what it was :)
Think I had a few too many beers tonight... :)

I've been challenged to drink a slab of beer this weekend ..... reckon I can do it...? Don't know what the price of failure is.....
It ended up being a 13 hour day.. not fun.. and still didn't get anywhere near enough done :(
And then I get home very late and just want to go to bed. But instead I compiled some photos...
A water lily at Nat and Andrew's..
La Trappe Quadrupel beer that Stu got the other week. It was really nice.
The salad and lasagna the Nattos made on Sunday..
And finally, sunrise this morning..

This week we had to go to the Local because our real local was closed for the holidays. Much beer was drunk and then we wandered off to dinner.
Next week we do lots of James Squire...

On the way back from the movies, we popped into the Wig & Pen for a beer. We got half pints of the Elders of the Black Forest, and their Kölsch.
For a heavy beer, the Black Forest one wasn't too bad, tasting almost sweetly syruppy.
And of course the Kölsch just reminded me of all the German beer we drank :)

Put my travelogue for today in this blog instead of the other one....
