Bohemian Rhapsody

Bohemian Rhapsody

I first heard Bohemian Rhapsody in 1986 in year 7 music at high school.  It was one of my favourite songs for years.

In 1991 I met my first boyfriend who was a *huge* Freddie fan, and I got into Queen as well.  He was not impressed.

Shrug.

On 25 November 25 1998, I heard that Brian May was performing in Sydney *that night*, so I rang up and got a ticket.  I was so sick with a heavy cold or a flu but I went anyway (just couldn't sing as well haha).

On 15 May 2012, I was in London and went to Garden Lodge - Freddie Mercury's old home (and current home of Mary Austin) in Kensington.

I was kind of expecting the movie to be somewhat "familiar", having seen quite a few documentaries over the years.

And it was, but also plenty of "fresh" stuff.

Overall I thoroughly enjoyed it.  Funniest bit was Mike Myers as an EMI exec saying "We need a song teenagers can bang their heads to in a car. Bohemian Rhapsody is not that song."   bwahahaha.

Obviously they had to change things around a bit for dramatic effect (Freddie wasn't diagnosed with AIDS til well after Live Aid, and they hadn't broken up before Live Aid either - that sort of thing).  But they finished on the high that was the Live Aid performance, which by many accounts was the best act of the day.

The casting was great.  I reckon Gwilym Lee totally nailed Brian May.

Worth seeing.
