*piffle* is all I want to say about the ridiculous idea to ban climbing Uluru aka Ayers Rock. I climbed it as kid and the thought of not being able to climb it again ever again just pisses me off. Tossers.
The "original owners" never used to care who climbed it. They were only concerned with the sacred sites and burial grounds around the base.
The "original owners" never climbed it, because they couldn't see the point. They always used to think it strange that "white man" had this fascination with climbing a rock in the middle of the desert.
I think the "original owners" might be setting up to start charging admission to climb it as compensation for their pain...
I am a recent Canberra resident after having spent the first 34 years of my life in Sydney. I am married to my beautiful husband Stu, and we live with several computers and a lot of fish.
Grunt.

July 10, 2009 7:36 AMWhen I went to Ayers Rock I chose to respect the owners wishes and didn't climb it. Of course, my unfitness contributed nothing at all to my decision!
