No response to my request for Perl GD.

And my attempts at hacking my own version failed abysmally.

I'd forgotten how intolerable comment spam is. And it's worse these days. You rarely get the same thing twice, and there's stacks of "nonsense" comment spam that actually doesn't spamvertise anything. It's just there to be annoying.

And I'm very annoyed.

MT 3.2 was doing a pretty good job at keeping comment spam at bay. Then it quit working as well. Then I found an expression to add to the plugin that fixed it again for a while. And then that quit working -- somehow strings I'd banned were getting through.

I finally added a plugin that closes comments to old entries. And now comment spam comes in once in a great while.

I'm not telling you what to try -- I think you know more about this than I -- I just wanted to let you know, to quote Pres. Clinton ... Ahh feel your pain. (You'll want to read that last bit with a hillbilly American accent.)

I like the 'purple' hack.

The purple hack didn't actually work. It was allowing anything through. Anyways, GD has been installed yayyyyy but it *still* allows any comments through, even if they don't have the code :(

Even with MT-Blacklist, I spend more time removing comment and trackback spam than I do creating entries - arrrg! If only the spammers could direct all that creative energy toward doing something positive, the world - or at least the blogosphere - would be a better place.
