Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

Saw Charlie and the Chocolate Factory tonight with Crossfire and Jess and a few others. It was pretty cool. It was actually closer to the seventies movie than I thought it would be. Usually when they do remakes they make them significantly different from the originals. I haven't read the book in *years* so can't remember all that much about it, so can't compare it to that unfortunately.

It had the usual Tim Burton/Johnny Depp/Danny Elfman whackiness to it. Charlie (the kid from Finding Neverland) was cute in this too, and the rest of the kids were sufficiently obnoxious.

oo ooo oo and I saw a preview for Goblet of Fire!! Was very excited. Although without the John Williams soundtrack, and the likely chopping of lots from the book, I don't hold out as much hope for it being that good. Well, not as good as the first couple anyway. Decides not to get hopes up too high for it.

A buddy and I are going to see the Wedding Crashers this evening.

I've seen it once already. It is very funny.

Vince Vaughn and Christopher Walken have one of the funniest scenes I've seen in years. And Vaughn delivers a line shortly after that that is a hoot.

There's a brief bit of nudity. Probably some language.

The silly thing is I could have won free tickets to see Wedding Crashers, but decided it looked really silly and decided not to. Now everyone that's seen it says how funny it is. Oh well.

My wife actually prefers the new version of Chocolate Factory to the old one. In some ways, I agree. I like the kids a bit better now (especially Charlie), the Oompa Loompas are infinitely more tolerable, and I love the backstory.

But, I'm sorry, as much as I love Johnny Depp, he can never replace Gene Wilder. He's the best. Just have to think about this new movie as a wholly different interpretation. I've got more info on my site. Don't want to bog down your comments with all that crap.
